The three great , Kheops, Kephren, Mykerinos (IVth dynasty, around 2,600 B.C.) This aerial view of the great pyramids was made for the first time in 1924, after an initial failed manual attempt by the American Henry Breasted in 1921. A photographer for the Royal Air Force attached a camera onto the fuselage of his Bristol Fighter MK II, the Royal Air Force's work horse during all of World War I. He was this able to calculate his frames from the top of the Mena House Hotel, which appears in the images with its gardens, in the middle of the Giza oasis in the then still intact desert to the west of the Giza plateau. To the north of the pyramids, on the cliffs, stands the necropolis of aristocratic members of the IVth dynasty, still barely explored by archeologists today...ROYAL AIR FORCE/COLLECTION PATRICK CHAPUIS-PHILIPPE FLANDRIN
